The Cost of Assisted Living

As people age, they often find that what was once an easy task is increasingly becoming difficult to manage. Though the change comes slowly, often our independence comes into question at some point in our lives as we age and many times we often need to be placed in assisted living either by ourselves or by those who care for us.

Many times the idea of assisted living is distasteful to many seniors and though they may balk at the idea if they are independent in nature there is an alternative that does not cost much more and allows the senior to maintain their independence and see the sights of the world at the same time.

The cruise line industry was the most affected by the recent downturn in the economy and while many people still traveled by car, plane, train and bus there were many who saw cruises as a waste of time and money because you do not get very far fast and it is time consuming.

In the wake of these events the cruise line industry has been trying to enter new niche markets in order to stay in business during tough economic times. One idea that they have been considering is becoming an alternative assisted living facility for seniors.

The cost of assisted living is nearly the same as taking a cruise or multiple cruises so it does not cost any more for either option.

In each instance, the medical facilities are the best on cruise lines and the meals are prepared each day. There are medical services that provide geriatric medical care because of the amount of seniors that do take cruises during their lifetime.

Instead of taking your loved one to a facility on land that can often be boring and stationary, you can place them in assisted living on a cruise line where they can see the world and experience other cultures while living a luxurious lifestyle they could not possibly have on land.

It is these reasons that you may want to think about life on board a cruise ship as an alternative and new place to reside.
